Year in Review: Top 4 Engagement Ring Trends of 2011

This time of year, you can’t help but turn on the TV and see a ton of shows with “year in review” lists. For those shopping for engagement rings in Chicago, we thought we’d put together our own “year in review” for the top 4 engagement ring trends we saw in 2011.

2011 was certainly a year of celebrity weddings with amazing weddings to match and their engagement rings did not disappoint and set the trend for the year.

Kate Middleton

The moment Kate Middleton unveiled her engagement ring, the same that the late Princess Diana wore, we saw a huge spike in request for sapphire and diamond engagement rings.  In Chicago, the interest in sapphires was apparent.

For those looking to get their very own “royal look”, this stunning Dantela ring from Tacori with 0.35 cts diamonds and a gorgeous 3 carat Sapphire center stone was a popular pick.

TWILIGHT

All of the “Twi-hards” could not wait to see what Bella’s character’s engagement ring would look like; when it was unveiled in this year’s blockbuster, they were not disappointed.

In Chicago, engagement rings were full of intricate designs and some even skipped a traditional center diamond altogether in favor for a diamond patterned motif like that worn by Bella.

MICRO-PAVE

In and around Chicago, engagement rings in 2011 with micro-pave diamonds were all the rage. Micro-pave diamonds are tiny and are a popular pick for engagement ring settings.

Micro-pave diamonds are a great way to add sparkle to your band, or to add a halo setting to a center stone ring. This trend is definitely here to stay for 2012.

THREE STONES

Last but not least, 2011 marked the return of three-stone engagement rings.  Celebrities frequently chose two round diamonds flanking exotic gemstones such as sapphires or rubies in their three-stone engagement rings.

As you can see, a lot of fabulous engagement ring trends were spotted in 2011. We are excited with these, as well as new trends for 2012. Be sure to stop by any of our James and Sons locations to see what engagement ring look style best suits you!
